Boston Marathon - 3:20:16 - re-qualify!!!

Howdy Folks

Photos by Greg M. Cooper. Copyright Vibram USA

Just got back to my hotel after running the Boston Marathon in 3:20:16 wearing FiveFingers shoes.
Firstly, let me say that Boston is a tough course. However, I set out to do 3:20, and I did it, so for that I am grateful. With this time, I re-qualify for Boston for my age group 40-45.
As photos become available, and I have more energy, I will write about my experience.
Until then...
Best Regards, Barefoot Ted
PS. A BIG! thank you to all the folks at Vibram USA for making this trip possible. You guys rock (are 41 year olds supposed to use that phrase?)!

Congratulations on your Boston performance! How are the shoes? I have recently posted a message about the fivefingers. If you can share some info on them I would appreciate it. I also try to run barefoot during my track warmup and cooldowns. And some tradmill. Thank you.

Howdy Papa Louie
Well, as my blog makes it pretty clear, I love my FiveFingers shoes. Vibram makes quality stuff. Even though they weren't made for running, they have helped me do things in running that I would not have been able to do without some protection.
Barefoot running and FiveFingers running are mechanically the same and require the same focus on form and gentle landings, ultimately leading, slowly but surely, to strengthened feet and injury free running IMHO.
Best of luck to you.

Why not barefoot? It's doable...I'd guess. I am sure that there will be many folks running the NYC Marathon in FiveFingers this year.
How about you?

Hi Ted,
I am running in the NYC marathon and I just got my first pair of KSOs yesterday (they feel great to put on and walk around in). I haven't yet run in them but am excited to try. This will be my first marathon and the current plan is to work barefoot running in slowly, but to reach my training goals still run in shoes. And once I complete the goal of completing my first marathon, work more on barefoot running and transition out of my shoes!!! Thanks for the inspiration. By the way, your FF skateboard ride looked very fun...I'll have to try riding in my FFs.

Nicely done! I was just in front of you at 3:04:46. My favorite course thus far.
